2nd Schedule.
Mandate, as they wish the king to continue his love to them,
in no wise to omit to finish by Easter the chamber which the king
ordered to be made for the knights at Westminster, though it
should be necessary to hire a thousand workmen a day. It is to
be made with an upper floor (ad estagium) and without trusses
(copulis), like the privy chamber of the Great Exchequer. It
is to be well roofed with lead, so that the view from the windows
of the great hall may not be injured. Two fireplaces are to be
made on (ad) the upper floor, and one underneath. The offices
(ojficinas) next t he ha ll are to be removed and set up again between
the Exchequer and the gate. Apparently the original writ enrnlled
on the Close Roll (Close Rolls, 1242-1247, p . 160). |
