[1261-8] Grant by Gilbert prior and convent to Roger the Gardener (Gardinerius) of Waltham and Alice his wife of a messuage with houses built thereon in the parish of St. Botolph without Aldgate extending from the king's highway of Houndesdyche to the wall of the prior's garden; abutments, the land and houses of Simon son of William Chyngeford on the east [f. 151v] and the land and houses of Richard the Tanner (Tannator) on the west; rent 6s. p.a.; the grantees are not to destroy or allow the houses to deteriorate but to maintain them and not to build against (super) the garden wall; swore fealty; if the grantees wish to sell, the canons to have the preference by a bezant of 2s. ; chirograph sealed; the grantees gave a ,pittance of 2s. ; witnesses, Thomas de Wymbome, then `sockener' of this soke, Robert de Hakeneye, Walter Trentmars. |
