Charter of Queen Maud, confirming to Holy Trinity priory, London, the gift of Hubert her chamberlain offour `libratae' of land in the manor of Braughing, Herts., part of the sixteen (libratae' which the king gave him in exchange for his land of Bendysh, in Radwinter, Ess. (1140-7)

The queen's confirmation was necessary because both Braughing and Bendysh were held of the honor of Boulogne, of which she was the heiress (Fees, 237-8). Being attested by both William of Ypres and Richard de Lucy, this charter can hardly be earlier than 1140 (Round, Geoffrey de Mandeville, 45, 49); on the other hand, it seems to be covered by the terms of the confirmation of Eugenius III dated 26 Oct. 1147 (Mon. vi. 154).
