RYE 136/14
Folder icon Feoffment from John Bone son of Henry Bone and heir of Brice de Rye, his grandfather, (See RYE/136/2 and the first witness of RYE/136/4.), to Richard Caldelove of Rye and Richard de Portesmothe of Rye, his partner [socio suo, or perhaps 'relative']. RYE/136/14 N.d. [c. 1290] (In two subsequent charters (RYE/136/20, 21), the former dated 1304, the donor here, John Bone, is apparently dead or has sold some of his property. The witness list associates the deed with RYE/136/7, 13-16. Another deed of John Bone dated 1281 appears above, RYE/133/2)

14 ymettas of land which lie in the tenure of Sir William de Echingehame in the marsh of Gadebergh [Gateborough] by the town of Rye, of which 11 ymette[s] lie there abutting east on the lands of John de Yham, the heirs of Nicholas Joye, and the lands of Robert called Michel, John called Thomas and Reginald Paccok of [Rye] and on the west upon the lands of the aforesaid Sir William and lying lengthwise from Betelesflet on the south to the highway leading to Rye on the north. And the remaining 3 ymettes which are called in English 'Cattesteyles' lie on the west towards the land of the said Sir William and on the east, south and north towards the Flet [inlet] vulgarly called Pipeneselles Fleyt.
Rendering all services to the chief lord of the fee namely 6½d. silver per annum and reserving to the donor a rent of 1d. silver per annum to be paid at his principal house in Rye as 'forgavel' [quit-rent] from all services and dues except for walls and waterways (wallis et watergangis).
Consideration 33 marks sterling.
